Rather than fasting together for spiritual growth during the 2019 season of Lent, we instead followed God’s call heard in the voice of the Prophet Isaiah to set aside the fast and bring the homeless poor into our house. As we asked God to guide our hearts to become stronger voices of advocacy and active agents of social change to care for all the faces of homelessness in our midst we created this Lenten Evening Prayer service liturgy. With the goal of creating a distinctly Lenten Evening Prayer Service with a central theme of Homelessness, Tom Strewve (music) and Pastor Jason Lukis (spoken liturgy/some lyrics) put their heads together to write a new scripturally rooted musically driven evening prayer service for the season of Lent, and Faces of Homelessness was born.
We are working on creating a leader/accompanist edition, as well as making a few changes in the assembly edition of the liturgy in hopes of one day making this available for other congregations to use as well! If you’re interested in finding out more about this vespers liturgy feel free to contact Pastor Jason.
