New Lenten Evening Prayer Liturgy: From Scarcity To Abundance

We love Holden Evening Prayer as much as the next Lutheran congregation, but let’s face it, with the Annunciation, Mary’s song, all that light shining in the darkness, this beautiful liturgy just doesn’t fit the season of Lent… at all. So, with the goal of creating a distinctly Lenten Evening Prayer Liturgy, Tom Strewve (music) and Pastor Jason Lukis (spoken liturgy/some lyrics) put their heads together to write a new scripturally rooted musically driven evening prayer service for the season of Lent, and From Scarcity to Abundance was born.

We are working on creating a leader/accompanist edition, as well as making a few changes in the assembly edition of the liturgy in hopes of one day making this available for other congregations to use as well! If you’re interested in finding out more about this vespers liturgy feel free to contact Pastor Jason.

New Music: Stepping Through The Cross

JTTC logo webToday was a very special day at Cross of Hope Lutheran Church! Not only was it Pentecost, but we also celebrated the Holy Spirit’s work in the lives of 12 new members, and 6 adults participants of our ongoing small group adult faith formation ministry (Journey Through The Cross) who chose to embark on an 5 week intensive preparation to confirm their faith by affirmation of baptism. This may be the first time in Cross of Hope history where a group entirely of adults have gone on a journey of Confirmation together. It was most definitely a day for celebrating!

As our ongoing adult faith formation ministry is called Journey Through The Cross, we have named the optional 5 week intensive preparation “Stepping Through The Cross” noting that while we may simply find ourselves on a journey, stepping takes intention. This inspired Pastor Jason to write his first ever piece of choral music for the occasion. Our mixed voice choir, Lift Every Voice, did an amazing job singing this piece right before these 6 adults stood up to confirm their faith together.
